Turning a drama script into a prompt book, and then a
performance, will be the process of enriching. The script is only the written
words; two dimension kind of thing, the proscenium of the proscenium to be. There
are words and nothing but words only. The elements of the script are rather lethargic
since the dynamic one will be the performance of the drama. An approach to
actually enjoy the drama script will be solely the reading session of it.
It will be different in a performance. Even though we enjoy
the proscenium stage, we still can explore the whole performance by paying
attention to various elements built in. The added value will be all of the
elements are the elements themselves. There will be a gesture as the gesture. There
is this certain place and time when all the actors meet and do activities in
certain surroundings.
However, during my time trying to convert a drama script
into promptbook, not yet a performance, what I have been doing is reducing the
script. Firstly, I have reduced the scene. For technical reason, to perform a
drama, we only have, more or less, 120 minutes for the whole performance. It
makes us need to cut the scenes of M. Butterfly to make it possible to be
enacted.
Like a processed meat, a drama performance is lack of the
characteristic of raw materials but there will be the new spicy included. We
do, what I call, the reducing enrichment. We do reduce a part or so when turn
the words into a performance. Or maybe the enrichment happens in different
space or dimension within the story.
There will be a compensation for the reducing parts.
