Why Is A Story Told

It will be naive if I have one sentence to explain why is a story told. Honestly, even though I have been studying in English Literature almost three years, when the question comes up, there will be a sound in my mind telling the answer to that question-- why is a story told-- ;" so that we can learn from it". However, it is too risky to say so. Firstly, who are "we"? We as the readers or as the authors, since the agencies in the question can be both. Furthermore, speaking about learning that can be more complicated.

I will put it this way; a story is told because we cannot have time travel or telepathy. A story is like reflection and telling it is like looking at the mirror. It also can be compared to the work of an eye. What we actually see is only the reflection of the thing itself. It means, there is no such a thing as "seeing the thing" because we, in the very biological meaning, only see its reflection. When an event is told, it is not an event but a story. An event is when we, with body and mind, are there in particular circumstances and that is an event. As long as it takes medium to be felt, then it is a story.

Based on this understanding, we can hardly separate between a fiction and non- fiction story. Both a fiction and non- fiction is a fiction, feign, figment, 'fingere'; it is "contrived or formed". Both are formed in a way that the events can be heard, seen, or known by others.
